SPRINGTIME SHORT STORY COMPETITION 2017 ANNOUNCED!

Your Writeful Place Short Story competition is now open to all unpublished or published writers in English across the globe.

 Win a place at one of our three day residential writing retreats in the UK or France worth up to £400. Alternatively, choose a cash prize of £200.

To enter, submit a short story of no more than 2,200 words. Your story may be on any theme but must be for adults. The closing date for entries is midnight (BST) 31st May 2017. The winner will be announced on 10th June 2017. Stories may be submitted via email. There is an entry fee of £8 for every short story submitted.

Our judging panel will be chaired by writer Hazel Manuel.

Rules of the Competition

  • The springtime short story competition closes at midnight on 31st May 2017.

  • The winner will be announced on 10th June 2017.

  • The winner will receive one free place at Your Writeful Place residential writing retreat. This includes full board accommodation and writing workshops with Hazel Manuel. Transport costs will be the responsibility of the winner.

  • By entering the competition you agree to accept either a place on one of the two scheduled writing retreats in 2017, or accept a cash prize of £200.

  • The competition is open internationally to unpublished and published writers in English.

  • We accept all genres except Children's fiction, Young Adult and Science Fiction

  • Please present your work double-spaced or 1.5 and send as an attachment in a PDF or Word Document via email to marilyn@yourwritefulplace.com

  • Please write Springtime Short Story Competition in the subject line and write your name, contact details and the title of your entry in the body of the email. Do not place your name or contact details anywhere on your submission. All stories are judged anonymously.

  • Entries must be made electronically and the £8 fee paid via Paypal. You will receive a PayPal receipt on payment which is also receipt of entry. See www.paypal.com if you do not already have a PayPal account.

  • If you request a critique please note we do not provide a proofreading service but a critique of your submission's literary integrity.

We are very excited to announce our Novel Beginnings Award to celebrate the launch of Your Writeful Place and our inaugural writers' retreat. Enter the first chapter of your unpublished novel of up to 3000 words, along with a one page synopsis. Your work will be judged by Paris-based novelist Hazel Manuel and will be published on Your Writeful Place website.

Prizes:  First Prize: £250

             Second Prize: £100
